Hello, Mummy and Daddy are too busy on Facebook to update this so I thought I had better write it.
It was my birthday last week and I had a fab party with all my family. I had lots of nice presents and we played pass the parcel and musical statues.
Thank you for all my presents and cards.
I have been poorly this week with a virus. I also had a horrible rash that made me swell up so much i could hardly see on Tuesday. It is fading now and looks like yellow bruises.

We have had lots of snow recently and had fun playing in it, but it has nearly all gone now.
Off to play now, will get Mummy to write again soon.

Girl Pride

Sometimes we get so caught up in everyday life that we forget the things that matter most. So this post is dedicated to three wonderful girls who make life worth living.

Beth continues to delight us with her little ways - the games she plays with us and the things she says that are just sooo cute and make us laugh. Christmas is going to be delightful with her, she loves stroking the Santa on our 'Santa stop here' sign, she adores all the 'pretty lights' and is quite happy stood looking at all the decorations on the tree. Beth loves helping out with housework, especially the washing, and will gladly load/unload the washer for me - she loves turning all the dials and pressing the buttons.

Beth enjoys the simple pleasures in life and loves being outside kicking through the leaves and hiding behind the lampposts and trees.

Rachel has been very busy recently, she is continuing to do well at swimming and has passed her level 3. She was an angel in the church nativity, and did an excellent job of looking after the little angels. In the school nativity Rachel was a narrator and quickly learnt her lines, which were spoken with confidence. At home she is really helpful, knows what her jobs are and does them without moaning. She is also getting a lot better at playing nicely with Beth so that I can get jobs done. She is just learning the art of telling jokes and comes out with some really funny ones, usually because they are so bad it makes us smile.

Gemma is just fab and I am so proud of her recent achievements at school. As well as all the jobs she does to help around the house and with looking after the girls she still finds time to do extra revision for school. In just one month her grades in Science and Maths (both of which she struggles with) went from an E to a D. She has spent the past 2 weeks doing mock GCSE's and has already had one of her science papers back - she got a D, but was only one point from a C.

Her confidence is slowly improving and I am sure she will continue to do well.

Gemma was in the chorus for panto this year, and did very well learning her dance routines and songs in time. She also stepped in at the last minute and had one line to learn in 2 days, because another chorus member wasn't confident enough to say it.

It is wonderful to see Gem having fun with her mates and doing girly stuff, chilling out and just enjoying life.

My girls aren't perfect, they all have their moments and I do shout at them. But overall they are good kids and I wouldn't be without any of them. I love them all. :-)

Panthers and Panto

What a busy weekend that was!!

Saturday started at 3.45am when my alarm went off for work. After dinner we took Beth and Rachel to Tubby Bears then Alison dropped me off at Tim's (friend from work) and together with Lisa (another work colleague) we went to Nottingham to see the ice hockey. The Panthers were playing Newcastle Vipers and it turned out to be a nine goal thriller with Panthers winning 6 - 3!! After the ice hockey we went to the Trip of Jerusalem for a few pints. Got home about midnight!!

Sunday was full dress rehearsal for panto. Its Aladdin this year and I'm Emperor Won Hung Lo. The photographer from the Evening Telegraph turned up and took a few shots (they should be in Fridays QT section of the paper). Sian, who plays Ambassador Bond also took a few snaps of which there are a few below.

Roll on next Friday and opening night!!

Daddys day off

Hi, Bethany here!!

It is half way through the half term break and it was Daddy's day off.

Mummy was at work and Gemma went to nursery for voluntary work experience.

In the morning Daddy took me and Rachel to Markeaton Park to feed the ducks and geese with some bread. Daddy had to shoo the geese off as they were a bit close for comfort. Then we went for a little walk kicking through the autumn leaves, it was a cold day but bright sunshine and Rachel said that Jack Frost had been in the night. Rachel tried walking on a fallen tree trunk and slipped off (silly girl).

After the park we went to Park Farm shops at Allestree and browsed the charity shops. Daddy bought a CD (Beethoven - Symphony No9) and a book each for me and Rachel. On the drive home i fell asleep as it was nice and warm in the car.

After dinner Daddy took us to Tubby Bears play den. Rachel took me on the big slides and i took her in the ball pool whilst Daddy enjoyed a nice cappuccino and read his Classic FM magazine.

We got home about 4pm - Mummy and Gem should be home for tea soon so bye bye!!

Presents

Paul has had a new car - his was getting very unreliable and wouldn't start at times, the windscreen wipers didn't work properly, it was also scratched and dented. We were on a limited budget so the BMW Z4 and Audi R8 had to stay in the showroom for now. Instead we have bought another Rover, slightly newer and better condition.

I have finally had the last of my birthday presents, well worth the wait!! On Thursday, Mum and I spent the day at Eden Day Spa in Hoar Cross, South Derbyshire. We had a little over 8 hours of relaxation and pampering all paid for by my dad. The day started with a continental breakfast, I had already had cereal at home so settled for a cup of tea and a croissant. Then we headed to the Yoga Relax class; 30 minutes of gentle exercise and relaxation designed to slow your breathing and free your mind from the stresses of daily life. After that we opted for a leisurely swim in the saltwater pool, a jacuzzi and a saunarium (similar to a sauna but more humid). We were booked in for lunch at 11.45 so we went and got dressed then made our way to the Seventh Heaven Restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed the creamy vegetable soup, pork escallop with roast vegetables and Apple and Black Cherry Crumble, whilst Mum had Stuffed tomatoes, Tuna steak with rocket salad and Eden Mess. There was still enough time to sit in the lounge with a drink before we had to get ready for our treatments.

We were treated to a deep tissue back massage, with started with body brushing and reflexology concentrating on the parts of the feet that relate to the back. I have always stored all my tension in my shoulder muscles, so knew this would be slightly painful, but hugely beneficial. We then had a facial, which included cleansing, toning, exfoliating, moisturising and many other things including a face mask. While the face mask was working we also had an arm and hand massage. By this time we were thoroughly chilled out and reluctant to move, so went to the snooze room and spent some time in a leather reclining massage chair. We then went for another drink before heading back to the pool for a foot massage using the water jets, a swim, jacuzzi and another sit in the saunarium. Then it was time to get showered and dressed before making our way back to the lounge to finish the day with champagne and truffles (I was driving so had a freshly squeezed orange juice instead).

We both had a fantastic day, it was not our first visit and certainly won't be our last. :-)

Growing up and Acting up

Rachels surprise on the Monday was a day on a narrow boat with my parents, brother and cousins. We were very lucky with the weather and there were only a couple of brief showers. We hired the boat from Stenson Marina and travelled down to Horninglow Basin for lunch, before having a leisurely trip back in the afternoon. We arrived back at the Marina just as the heavens opened. Thanks to Dad (and Nick) for driving the boat.

Rachel is back at school and really enjoying it - she took great pleasure in telling me 'after next summer holidays I will be in juniors'. Her reading is fantastic and she is currently reading Roald Dahls 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.

Beth has started at Nursery one day a week, and has amazed us all by how quickly she has settled in - the first two visits were rather tearful (for her) but now she only cries for a brief minute when I first leave. She has soon made friends with the other children as well as the staff, and is already learning lots of new things there.

Paul had four nights on stage at the end of August as Officer Crabtree in 'Allo Allo'. Mickleover Players performed to sell out crowds every night.

Rehearsals and set building are now well under way for the christmas panto - Aladdin, in which Paul is playing Jasmines father, Emporer Won Hung Lo!

Summer fun

I thought I'd better let readers know what we have been up to over the summer holidays before I forget.

At the beginning of the holidays my brother invited me and the girls for a day out at the Midland Railway Centre, Thomas the Tank Engine was there with his friends. We had a fun day with rides on Daisy (a diesel engine) and Thomas. We also saw Diesel, Oswald and the Fat Controller. One of the carriages we had a ride in was called Rachel!!

Last week both Paul and I were off work, so we organised a couple of days out. On Tuesday we went to the cinema to see Wall-E and then went to McDonald's for dinner. Rachel really enjoyed the film and thought the robots Wall-E and Eve were great, although I'm not sure she understood what the film was about.

On Friday we went to Drayton Manor Park and Zoo, their big new attraction for this year is Thomas Land. All the rides in this section are based on Thomas the tank engine and other characters from the stories. We all enjoyed the day even though it was really busy and there were huge queues for everything. We all managed to go on a few rides and had a walk round the zoo as well.

Then on Saturday we went to Carsington Reservoir for a picnic and a walk, enjoying the sun while we could.

A few times over the summer Rachel has told me she has had the best day ever, so I am pretty sure that she has enjoyed herself. We have still got one more surprise lined up for her on Monday, but I will tell you about that next time.

Yes that's right, today Rachel learnt to ride her bike.

After only the second time taking her out without stabilisers (with me) and a couple of times with Ali she can now ride up and down the street and round bends and everything!!

Butlins Weekend & 40th Birthday

Yet again i am starting the blog with apologies, though you should be used to them by now. Sorry but I've been too busy turning forty - more about that later.

On Friday 18th July we took Rachel & Bethany to Butlins, Skegness for three nights. Stopped in a lovely apartment and breakfast and evening meals were included. Rachel really enjoyed it saying it was the best holiday she'd ever been on!!

On 31st July i celebrated my 40th birthday, the actual day was quite a quiet affair (was even at work in the morning) but we had a family get together on the Saturday with a meal at The Gulshan (local Indian restaurant), and then drinks and birthday cake back at our house. Had lots of lovely cards and presents and birthday wishes from everyone. Thank you to you all and a special big thank you to Alison for all that she does for me. She's one in a million!!

I have found a problem with the blog - if you have time to post, then it means you haven't done anything to write about; and if you have something to write then you are too busy enjoying yourself to actually sit at the computer and write about it.

Now I have to test my memory and try to remember what we have been up to....

I have finally found the time to take Bethany swimming and for the past 3 weeks have gone on a Thursday with my mum, Beth and Rachel. Beth was very clingy the first week, but it is over a year since she had been so that is understandable. Now she is really happy and loves splashing and kicking her legs and playing games in the water with us. It has also made her more confident in the bath and that is getting less stressful.

No other major developments in Beth's life, she is still reluctant to talk but always finds a way to get what she wants.

Rachel has had a good report from school and we are very pleased with her progress. She had a great day out on a school trip to White Post Farm where she held a Guinea pig and a mouse and had lots of fun feeding all the animals.

She is enjoying her time at Rainbows where she has earned lots of badges, and is also doing very well at her swimming lessons.

Paul is busy with rehearsals for the next Mickleover Players production; 'Allo, Allo' in which he plays the part of Officer Crabtree. He has also got a part in the Pantomime - Aladdin, and will be directing their spring play. There is always something to look forward to.

Paul and myself went to a fantastic party at the beginning of this month - two of the members of Mickleover players share my birthday and one of them had a fancy dress party at her house, with a fairyland theme. Paul went as the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland and I went as a fairy. We had a wonderful night despite the rain and it was great to see everyone dressed up in a variety of different costumes.

I had a good birthday with some wonderful presents including, a Nintendo DS from Paul, a day at Hoar Cross Hall Health Spa with Mum - from my parents, and a tub of Ben and Jerry's Fish Food ice cream (yummy).

The conservatory is finished, furnished and brilliant.

Couldn't post any photos until our friends Richard and Lynda had come round on Friday evening to see us. Richard is a regular to this blog (one of thousands - NOT).

Yesterday we drove all the way to Skegness to spend the day under a blanket of cloud and rain (felt more like February than Blazing June). Went to Natureland which is the seal sanctuary. Rachel and Beth enjoyed seeing the seals, penguins, butterfly house, reptile house and aquarium.

Drove up to Sutton on Sea but not a lot there so drove home.

Stopped off at McDonalds in Grantham on the way home.

Sudbury Hall & Museum of Childhood

Firstly just a quick update on the conservatory.

The builders and fitters and the electrician have all finished, so now its our turn to carpet it and fill it with furniture.

The photos below are of the finished article (unfurnished).

Today we took the girls to Sudbury, to the museum of childhood. It's about five years since we last went and its all been updated and changed. Best bit of the day we all agreed was the school room where a teacher gave lessons. I got told off for being left handed and made to stand in the corner with a dunce cap on!! We took a picnic and had a lovely time. Took the scenic route home as Beth fell asleep within two minutes of leaving.

Another weekend and this time the weather wasn't as good.

Not quite as warm with occasional showers.

Saturday I took Rachel to see her Grandad performing with the Mellow Dramatics at the Brewhouse in Burton. They were doing a production of the Mikado by Gilbert & Sullivan. And very good it was too!! Martin was in the chorus singing lots of songs.

On Sunday Ali went to Locko Park with WI to sell some of her jewellery and i took the girls down to see her for a bit. Then after dinner we all went to Nick & Hayleys for a barbeque.

Today, Tuesday, the workmen were back to start phase two of the conservatory. We are hoping it will all be finished by the weekend.

Fun in the Sun

On Saturday we made the most of the sunshine and took a picnic lunch to Tutbury Mill. Beth and Rachel had good fun playing on the park, and we had a walk into the village for ice creams - Beth got in a bit of a mess, but enjoyed feeding herself.

When we got back home, we filled up the paddling pool and the girls (including myself) had good fun splashing about.

Sunday dawned another hot and sunny day, I did the Race for Life in the morning and was really pleased with my time of 35 minutes, 45 secs. I have managed to raise £128 for Cancer Research. Thank you to all who sponsored me, and also thanks to Sheila and Sarah who I started the run with - a familiar face was all I needed to give me a confidence boost.

In the afternoon, we went to my brothers so the kids could all play together - more fun in the sand pit and paddling pool.

Today was Paul's day off, and this afternoon he took Bethany to Highfield Happy Hens, they had a fantastic time looking at all the animals (lots of young ones) and Beth kept laughing at all the different things she saw.

Bank Holiday Monday

This morning Ali and myself together with Rachel and Bethany went to Derby Garden Centre in Little Eaton. Alison bought some craft items and we enjoyed sausage cobs in the cafe.

Came home for dinner, after dinner the weather brightened up so we took a trip to Branston Water Park to feed the ducks and geese.

Walked around the lake, Beth walked for about half of the journey (she didn't want to go back in her pushchair).

Saw and heard lots of birds including Blackcap, Reed Bunting, Chiffchaff, Sedge Warbler, Garden Warbler, Dunnock, Chaffinch and many more!

Rachel and Bethany played on the swings and slide at the park.

Called in at Alisons parents on the way home for a cuppa and a chat.

Had tea, then i got the girls ready for bed whilst Ali did some more work in the garden (building walls).

Conservatory update

Two weeks and the building work is complete on the new conservatory.

The surveyor will be coming next week to measure up for the glass (windows) and the roofing.

Then we have to wait a couple of weeks for them to be made up and then the work will carry on.

Well the builders have finished their first week on our new conservatory. Very slow going at the moment as they had the horrible task of moving a man hole cover that was situated just where the conservatory is going to be.

So, lots of big holes in the back garden at first - but now we will start to see things taking shape over the next couple of weeks.

The Mickleover Players have just finished their latest production 'Sorry, I love you'. Playing to packed audiences, i was part of the stage management - prompting, curtains and other tasks here and there. Next production is 'Allo Allo' in the summer and i've landed the role of Officer Crabtree (Good Moaning). Rehearsals start next week - watch this space for more details!!

Briony

I know I've not updated for ages - sorry.

This is just a short message to let everyone know that we sadly had to say goodbye to Briony the cat.

After sixteen years as the family pet her health deteriorated and she was put to sleep at the vets on thursday evening (10th). As you can probably guess a lot of tears were shed by myself and Ali, she will be greatly missed and it will seem strange around the house without her......Goodnight Bri xx

Birthday number two!

Yesterday was Rachels sixth birthday.

In the morning she went to town with her mummy to visit the Build-a-Bear factory. She made a cuddly pink and white dog and called it Gemma. She bought an outfit and a lead for it as well.

At tea time the relatives descended on the house to help celebrate her day with a party tea.
Today Rachel had a party for friends at Mickleover Pavillion on Vicarage Road. It was a princess & pirates party and Miss Sparkle (childrens entertianer) came and did some games and balloon modelling and face painting. Rachel had invited eight of her school friends and she had a wonderful time.

Bethanys first birthday

As promised here's the long overdue blog update.

Last Wednesday saw the first birthday of the year in our family. It was also the first birthday for Bethany. Where has the first year gone?

We had a party tea for her and invited both sides of the family round (18 people turned up) so it was quite a squeeze.She had loads of nice presents and cards and a lovely 'In the Night Garden' birthday cake.

Xmas & New Year update

A belated "Happy New Year" to everyone. The festive season is all over for another year.

This Christmas (Bethany's first) started at 7.20am when Rachel woke and came into our room to say she wanted to go to the toilet but didn't want Santa to see her. So we told her it was alright to go, she did then went back to sleep. Now this is very strange because any other day she wakes about 6.30am and clock watches till she's allowed in our room at 7am. She eventually came into our room about 7.50am after Beth had woken and been brought into bed with us.

Finally Gemma joined us (and Briony the cat) and they all opened their little presents in their stockings.

Then it was downstairs to open the rest of what Santa had left.

After breakfast we all got changed into our party clothes and went to my sisters for Christmas dinner and more pressies.

We left my sisters around 4.30pm to go to see Alison's family up at her brothers house in Etwall. More presents and a buffet tea, leaving around 8.30 - 9.00pm to take three very tired children home to bed.

New Years eve was spent once again round at my mum and dads, Helen and two of my neices were also there (Laura was in town with friends).

Beth and Rachel fell asleep before midnight, although Rachel did wake in time to see Big Ben strike 12 and join in with our rendition of "Auld Lang Syne".

So now it's 2008, and before you say it - no i will not be making any resolutions about updating my blog more often.

It's been a while

Sorry it's been a while since the last blog update, i know my three readers will be amazed. So here goes...

October 27th saw Ali, Gemma and myself at a halloween party at Brian & Alisons in Mackworth (friends of Mickleover Players). See photos below.

November 10th i went to Nottingham with two friends from work. Tim and Pete and i have been to see the Nottingham Panthers ice hockey team on two previous occasions. The first time they lost and the second time they drew (but lost on aggregate) so this time we wanted a win. Sure enough they didn't let us down and they won 5 - 2. A nice send off for Pete who is moving to Hong Kong next month.

Today saw me and Rich walking 17 and a half miles along the High Peak trail in aid of the British Heart Foundation. Legs are aching but i've raised nearly £200 in sponsors. As you will see from the photo below the weather wasn't too kind.

Back to reality

Well after a week off work it's back to reality tomorrow.

Spent most of the week looking after the kids whilst Ali did extra work, but it's been really enjoyable.

Last weekend was my mums 62nd birthday so went round for tea on Saturday. Gem was with us and she went to a friends leaving party at Pastures Social Club (the friend is moving to Australia)

Wednesday was panto rehearsals.

Thursday saw Ali and her mum spending the day at Hoar Cross Health Spa. It was Alis belated 30th birthday pressie and she had a wonderful time.

Friday me and Beth met Ali and her mum at the Old Tea Rooms for elevenses.

This weekend we took Rachel and Beth to Elvaston Castle on the Saturday and went swimming at John Port on Sunday followed by croissant at Alis parents.

Today Ali and I went shopping in Burton. Ali had some vouchers to spend in Matalan and I went round the charity shops to see what bargains i could find.

Oh well work in the morning.

Eco Fest

Saturday 8th Sept

Took the girls to Markeaton Park as there was a festival on called Eco-fest. It's a bi-annual event promoting awareness of environmental issues and re-cycling. Also Neverland were playing a live set. Neverland are a local band that i have seen on a few occasions and have a couple of their CDs. Rachel had a go on the giant inflatable slide and Gemma took her to make a crocodile out of cardboard boxes and scrap material whilst Ali, Beth and i watched the band. Well actually Beth must be the only person to fall asleep during a Neverland gig!!

Our friends Richard and Lynda were there (mainly to see the gig). It was Richards first ever time at Markeaton Park!!

Inspector Calls & Conkers

Hello, it's not taken me as long to update this time! So here goes...

On Tuesday we had a visit from Maz & Dave all the way from Australia (Maz is an old school friend of Ali's and a regular reader of this blog - Hi, it was lovely to see you both and little Jacob as well).

Thursday, Friday and Saturday saw me on stage again with Mickleover Players, although this time i was hiding behind the curtain as i was only the prompt. The performances went extremely well and the cast pulled through superbly and put on a great show - well done all!!

Saturday afternoon we went to Peak Village near Rowsley to do some shopping and Saturday night i was at the after show party at Lucy & Pauls (till 1am)!!

Sunday we went to Conkers for the day. Lots of hands on experiences to do with recycling and energy saving and the enviroment, also plenty of outside wildlife walks including an assault course that Gemma and i did (see picture below), an observation tower and picnic areas set in some beautiful countryside with lakes all within the National Forest.

Huge apologies

Firstly i would like to apologise to all my readers (yes - both of you).

What have i been up to since the last blog entry?

Well not a lot really, July saw Beth moving in to her nursery and my 39th birthday,which was a quiet do (i was on strike from work so at least i spent it at home with the family).

Had a week off work at the end of July and with Rachel being on her first school holidays we've been on a few day trips, including Fradley Junction, where the Trent & Mersey canal joins the Coventry canal. Rachel was really interested in how the locks worked for the barges. I saw a fox in a neighbouring field and showed Rachel she was fascinated.

We also had a picnic at Rosliston Forestry Centre in the heart of the National Forest .

Took the girls to Markeaton Park on my birthday (it was packed). We enjoyed the ice creams though!!

Still involved in rehearsals for "An Inspector calls" with Mickleover Players (i'm prompt). Can't wait for the beginning of September though when we start panto rehearsals, looking forward to performing on stage again (it's a fantastic buzz)

The Birling family are spending a happy evening celebrating the engagement of Sheila Birling to Gerald Croft – a marriage that will result in the merging of two successful local businesses.
Yet, just when everything seems to be going so well, they receive a surprise visit from an Inspector Goole who is investigating the suicide of a young girl. The questions he asks everyone relating to the case reveal that they all have secrets linking them to the tragedy.

Looking forward to the next three weeks of the school holidays as Gemma is coming to stop with us. She's just been away with her mother and brothers and sister to South Wales. I'm picking her up tomorrow and we're having a BBQ at Martin and Margarets (Ali's parents).

A look back at quite an eventful week.

Monday was the anniversary of when Alison and I met, 13 years ago!!

Tuesday saw Rachel take her Rainbows promise, she is now a fully fledged Rainbow. Grandma came with us to see Rachel take her promise.

Thursday was Alisons 30th birthday, unfortunately I was working and Rachel was at school so it turned out to be an ordinary day (we did give her a chocolate muffin with a candle in and sang happy birthday to her) and she had some nice presents...including a day at a health spa which she still has to look forward to!!

Saturday night saw me at Lucys 32nd birthday party (Mickleover Players).

It was fancy dress (Super heroes) and i went as Super Dad!!

Sunday was a very special day, we got Bethany christened at St Helens church, Etwall. All the family were there to see the ceremony and then join us back at Nick and Hayleys for buffet and drinks.

So quite a busy week in the Margett household.

Panto auditions!!

Last night saw the Mickleover Players hold their auditions for this years panto. I took Gemma down with me and met nieces Amy and Holly there.

Sleeping Beauty this year and i put my name down to read for the following parts : 1. The King 2. Fetch & Carrie (the comedy duo) and 3. Muddles (the palace handyman). Had a great laugh and even had to sing in front of everyone (my apologies to Mr Mercury if you're listening up there) my rendition of "Don't stop me now" went very well.

After much deliberation from Nick (the director) along with Andrew (the chairman) and Emma and Rob i managed to land the part of Muddles!!!

Gemma, Amy and Holly all have parts in the chorus.
Roll on September when rehearsals start and watch this space for more details on performance dates....

Presthaven Sands (26.5.07 - 2.6.07)

Hello all, we are back safe and sound from our holidays in North Wales.

Weather was a lot better than forecast, sunday was probably the worst with rain most of the day and all night.

There now follows a brief summary of the things we got up to...

Sat 26th May

Left home about 10.50am, cloudy and dry for most of the journey with occasional heavy downpours. Stopped for picnic in the car near Chester at around 12.45pm. Arrived at caravan park at 2.45pm.

After unpacking we went for a walk to the main activities area had a look around and took fish & chips back to the caravan. Evening - stopped in and watched TV.

Sun 27th May

Drove in to Prestatyn to do the weekly food shopping, rained most of the day so stopped in caravan. Sun finally broke through about 8.30pm.

Mon 28th May

Went into Prestatyn again, there was a Classic Car Show and European market (shared a chocolate pancake - yum yum). Had lunch back at the caravan then i went to the on-site pub to watch the big match. Derby County v West Brom in the championship play-off final at Wembley. It was a nerve wracking game which the Rams won 1-0!! Back in the premier league!!! Had tea at the caravan and in the evening went up to the arcades where i beat Gemma at air hockey 7-0. Ali and Gem had a go on the dance mat.

Tues 29th May (Happy Birthday Andy)

Went to Conwy for the day, visited Conwy Castle and the smallest house in Great Britian. Then we drove down to Betws-y-Coed to visit Swallow Falls. Drove back to holiday park for tea and spent the evening in watching tv.

Wed 30th May

Weather cold and windy so spent the morning in the caravan, went for a walk to the activities area (beat Gem at air hockey again - 7-0 ). Rachel watched the end of the Bradley Bear show.

Had lunch back at the caravan.

Afternoon, Rach went on the trampoline and I had a go on the Go-Karts, Ali and Beth stopped in the caravan.

Evening, went up to see a bit of the entertainment programme (Rach watched Bradley Bear again).

Thurs 31st May

Made a picnic and went to Anglesey (about 1 and a half hours drive). Weather was mixed, bright one minute then heavy showers the next.

Visited the longest place name in Great Britian - Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwryndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Also went to the Anglesey Sea Zoo which was like a mini version of a Sealife centre.

On the drive back stopped off at Colwyn Bay for a look round but weather wasn't too good.

Had tea at Mash and Barrel (on-site restaurant).

Evening, went to watch the entertainment and play on the arcade machines.

Fri 1st June

Weather is glorious, went on the beach!! Beth paddled in a puddle of sea water. Rachel and Gem built sand castles. Had dinner at caravan then went to the swimming pool in the afternoon. Had tea at the caravan then went to see the entertainment in the evening.

Sat 2nd June

Up early to be out of the caravan by 10am. Rach and Gem played in the softplay area then we started on the journey home. Stopped for picnic at the Staircase locks near Nantwich. Arrived home about 3pm.

Guide Dogs & Options

Tuesday.

Today was a taste of things to come. Ferrying kids here,there and everywhere!

Firstly it was to take Rachel to Rainbows, parents were invited to stay as they had two people from the Guide Dogs association (with their dogs) to do a demonstration and talk. See photos below.

Then it was to take Gemma to an open evening at her school about choosing her options for the next two years. She's hoping to do health and social care and possibly food technology (that's what we called cookery when we were at school).

Long overdue update

Sorry it's been a while, no excuses, just not got around to it.

Here goes...

Last weekend our friends Richard and Lynda came round to see us and have drinks and some supper, Rich bought some CD's to listen to. T'was good to see them again.

On the Saturday we went to Byrkley Garden Centre. They had a baby goat that was only one day old (aaah). Rachel wasn't feeling too good and didn't want to play on the playground. I bought some fish for my aquarium (Rummy nose Tetras - see picture below)

Tuesday, Rachel went to Rainbows for the third time. She's really settled in and enjoys it immensely. They've been learning about and raising money for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Wednesday i was at Mickleover Players rehearsals for 'An Inspector Calls'.Once again one of the cast didn't turn up so i got to read a part (all good practise). Not had to do any prompting yet as the cast are still reading from script.

Friday i went to see Bluehorses playing live at the Flowerpot. If you don't know them they are a celtic rock band that i have been following for a number of years now. Cracking performance with a new bass player, thoroughly enjoyed the show. Good to see Rich and Lynda again (twice in the space of a week)!! Got to bed at 11.50pm!

Up for work at 4.30am, after which i went home to listen to Derby Countys match on the radio (they are in the play-offs for a place in the premiership league) Excellent result Southampton 1 - 2 The Rams !! Next Tuesday sees the second leg of the tie.

Like a Virgin & Willow Festival

Last weekend saw the Mickleover Players performing their latest play, Like a Virgin. Helped out on front of house on Friday night (selling programs) and took Alison to see it on the Saturday. Very moving performance (Ali sobbed her socks off).

Sunday saw everyone in Alis side of the family round here doing jobs (putting in air vents and plastering) they stopped for lunch. In the afternoon we repaid the compliment by going round to Nick & Hayleys and helping in the garden, followed by a BBQ.

This weekend we went to Egginton to their annual Willow Festival. Martin had his woodturning and pyrography stall. Made a dragonfly out of willow. Very enjoyable afternoon in the sunshine. Photos were taken with my camera phone.

Easter weekend

Good Friday we went to Ali's folks for a BBQ, yum yum very tasty!! Nick,Hayley,Adam and Jack were there too. Then up to my parents for tea. My sister and the girls were there as well and Dave, Jenny and Brandon.

On Saturday we went to Burton on Trent to take Gemma clothes shopping for her birthday. She had a top, skirt and leggings. After dinner we took the girls to Markeaton Park as the weather was beautiful and sunny.

Sunday was Gemmas 14th birthday,and my sisters 41st as well. Stayed in for the morning and Hayley popped round with a present for Gem. Later on i took Gem back to her mums with two of her school mates for a sleepover.

Monday morning and i was up early and off to meet Rich at Willington Nature Reserve. It's the first time i've been down since it was taken over by the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. Highlights were Little Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, Chiffchaff, Buzzard and many more. Also saw a pair of Great spotted woodpeckers fighting over a nest hole. A long overdue update

Sorry it's been a while, once again had trouble logging on to the Blogger website.

Well here goes...

Firstly we go back to last Friday (30th) when Ali went down to Hilton Garage to pick up our new car (see photo below) it's absolutely lovely to drive and really comfortable!

Sunday saw us all off to Berkeley Garden Centre (any excuse for a drive in the new car). Bought some stuff for the aquarium, Rachel had a play on the park (and Ali did as well), then went down to see the animals including an eleven day old pygmy goat, aaaah.

Monday, off work this week, took Rachel to swimming lessons at John Port school then went to Attenborough Nature Reserve for a picnic with Martin and Margaret (Alisons parents). Did a spot of birdwatching, highlights being Ruddy Duck, chiffchaff, Shellduck, Grey Heron and lots more. Took quite a few photos of which the best are below.

Wednesday was my day off work, and it turned out to be an expensive day for us.

Alison and i went to Hilton Garage in the afternoon to look at a Renault Megane Scenic after a quick once over we were going to ask for a test drive when we saw a Citroen Xsara Picasso for the same price. So we had a look round that one and decided we liked it better. One test drive later and we'd sealed a deal. We will be picking it up next friday (30th). Photos to follow shortly.

Wednesday evening was a clear sky ideal for viewing Venus below the new moon in the western sky, took some photos of which the best are below.

Friday was auditions night for "An Inspector Calls" with the Mickleover Players. Although i felt that i read well i wasn't chosen for a part, oh well, there's always panto later in the year

70 Years young

Last night the Margett family all went out to Wing Wah's chinese restaurant in Burton to celebrate my dads 70th birthday. Lots of delicious food was consumed by all, if you've never been it's a buffet style restaurant. You pay one fixed price then help yourself to as much food as you like from the starters, main course and desserts. A fantastic selection and well worth going if you like oriental food. Then it was back to Helens for birthday cake and presents.

Today was my day off work. After dropping Rachel off at school, Ali and i went for a look round Derby Garden Centre in Little Eaton, bought mothers day present for my mum. Next it was on to the Wyvern Retail Park, Ali went to Mothercare whilst i went in Toys'r'Us. Then it was onto McDonalds for dinner (see photo below - taken on my phone).

The afternoon was spent mowing the lawns (told you summer was here) then Alisons mum and dad came round to look after Rachel whilst we went to see her teacher, Mrs Wilks, as it was parents evening.

Nothing but praise for Rachel, a model pupil, long may it last.

Yes it's official, summer has arrived. Sunday morning saw me parked in a lay-by in Elvaston at 7.30am for a spot of birdwatching with Rich around Elvaston Castle.

Four hours and we saw lots of nice stuff, highlights included drumming Great Spotted Woodpeckers, lots of Jays, Long tailed Tits, Golcrests, and the first Chiffchaff of the year. For those of you who are not birdwatchers the Chiffchaff is one of many summer visitors to our shores (not as widely known as the Swallow). We also heard Tawny Owl, Green Woodpecker and Buzzard. Weather was very nice and spring like and it was a lovely morning all round.

After birding it was round to Nick & Hayleys to help in the garden and then to enjoy the first barbecue of the year, although it did cloud over a bit. But still this is England in march and you can't expect miracles.

Drama Workshop, lunar eclipse & owls

Friday night saw me at what turned out to be the first Drama workshop organised by Mickleover Players (the February one was cancelled due to snow).

Ten people turned up and had a great laugh doing role playing and generally having a laugh, followed by a trip to the Great Northern pub to wet the babys head.

Saturday night there was a total eclipse of the moon (where the moon is hidden by the earths shadow), starting around 9.30pm i managed to see ten minutes of it before going to sleep - have to get sleep when we can at the moment!

Sunday morning saw me up and parked up at Carsington Water, a reservoir near Ashbourne, for a spot of birding with Rich.

Some excellent birds were seen, highlights for me include roosting Tawny Owl, Barn Owl, Curlew flying past, juvenile Great Northern Diver, Great spotted Woodpecker and lots of Bullfinches. Stayed until about 11.30am when the heavens opened and spilt a lot of wet stuff (that's rain to you and me). It was great to get out and must do it again soon.

A nice quiet weekend

Saturday started with me at work as usual (Shane O'connor read out my text to him on Radio Derby). Afternoon didn't do much and in the evening we went to my folks. My Nan was there for supper so it was the first time she had seen Bethany (forgot to take my camera to take shots of Beth with her Great Grandmother - 90 years separate them)!!!

Sunday was supposed to be wet and windy so Rich and i agreed to give the birdwatching trip a miss. It turned out to be quite nice in the morning so we'll have to arrange another get together.

Instead we had visitors in the shape of Natalie & Graham (hello if your'e reading this and a huge thanks for the presents for Rachel and Bethany it was so kind).
Natalie is one of Alisons friends from her time in sixth form at John Port School (studying her a-levels), she now lives in Cambridgeshire.

At the same time i had a new windscreen fitted on the car (crack appeared the other day, when i picked up Gemma from school a football hit the screen)
After sunday dinner of beef casserole we spent the afternoon watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on DVD.

So all in all a nice quiet wekend.

Today is Rachels 5th birthday, and her first day back at school after half term.

Yesterday we had a party tea for the family and Rachel had lots of lovely presents.

Ali only just made it back for the party after being rushed into hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning (2am). She had lost a large amount of blood so we took her in and they put her on antibiotics and kept a watch on her for twenty four hours. She's alright now but taking things easy, her mum comes round in the mornings to take Rachel to school and i pick her up.

Today was also my first day back at work after paternity leave, nothings changed, same old routine. Lots of customers congratulating me on delivery!

At 1.30pm Bethany and her mummy arrived home, so no more quiet nights!!

Still snowing (off and on). Bethany stayed sleeping all the way home in the car even though it was freezing cold.

Snow looks lovely (through the window) not so nice when you have to go out in it though. Just glad i'm not at work this week. More snow and freezing fog forecast.......think i'll stay indoors!! Rachel wants to go out and build a snowman.

Last night i had the scope set up in the back garden viewing the planet Saturn. Awesome sight, you could see the rings and everything and it was just underneath a full moon. First time i have seen it!!

Today Alison, Rachel and i went for a lovely stroll round Branston Water Park. The weather was cold but sunny and it was nice to get out and do a little bit of birdwatching.

Saw Redwing, Fieldfare, Great spotted Woodpecker, Long Tailed Tit, Tufted Duck, Cormorant, Lapwing and many more. Got a few shots with my camera as well (see below)

Tuesday is the Day!!

A quick post to say that Tuesday is the day.

Alison is booked in for a cesaerian section at 8.00am.
So next time i blog there will be a new member to our family!!

On a different note, last night i popped down to the school to see the Mickleover Players rehearsing their latest production, "Like a Virgin."
Signs are that it's going to be a cracking piece of amatuer dramatics and i urge everyone to go and see it.

I'm sorry it's been a while since the last update, and i know i said i'd post more often, but it's not my fault.

Been having trouble logging in to the blogger site, either blogger is not working properly or our computer is being silly, who knows.

Anyway, tomorrow is the day the baby is supposed to be born and Alison can't wait as she is so fed up. Uncomfortable all the time, not sleeping well and generally fed up. She's virtually cleaned the house from top to bottom and even found time to appear on BBC1.

She had a call in the week from the Evening Telegraph asking her if she would like to be interviewed regarding her treatment she had in 2004 for cervical cancer.

So on Thursday an interviewer and cameraman came round to our house and filmed Alison.

The Politics Show on Sunday at 12.00 noon featured about a minute or twos worth of interview (blink and you miss it) but at least she can say she's appeared on the same programme as the prime minister. He wasn't at our house by the way!!

Lauras 18th Party

Would you believe it, Laura (my eldest neice) is 18 years old. Last night was party night at Pastures Social Club, Mickleover. Lots of family and friends were there including lots of teenagers (boy do i feel old). See picture on the left.

Earlier in the day we went to The Ferrers Centre at Staunton Harold, where two of my cousins have craft shops. Tim does sign-writing and picture framing and Chris has got a Victorian Model Workshop where he designs and builds mechanical figures, automatons and animated displays, see the website under links to favourite websites.

The other amazing news is that Derby County FC (The Rams) are top of the championsip (first time in eleven years)!!! Enjoy it while it lasts......

Guys and Dolls

Well all good things come to an end. Back to work this week and back to lots of wind and rain!! Still drying out from yesterday.

Last night Alison and i went out leaving Laura babysitting. We went to see the Mellow Dramatics latest production at the Brewhouse in Burton-on-Trent. They were doing a performance of Guys and Dolls and Alisons Dad (Martin) had a few roles to play including the Master of ceremonies, a barman and a gambler. We've seen quite a few of their shows over the past 4 and a half years since Martin joined them and they never fail to put on a great performance.

Tomorrow Alison is out with her circle of mothers at a social gathering (First Aid revision) and Saturday sees us all out at Lauras 18th Party.

What a hectic life we lead!! That'll soon stop when baby comes along!!

As my week off from work comes to an end, i look back and see we have managed to get the nursery habitable, the cot has been delivered, xmas decorations are put away for another year and now all we need is for Alison to have the baby (only 18 days to go).
